Description
Discover one of North Africa’s best-preserved Roman cities with a local guide.
Djemila (ancient Cuicul), a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1982, sits on a mountain plateau at about 900 metres. The ruins show how the Romans adapted their urban planning to a rugged mountain landscape.
On this guided visit you will explore:
The Cardo Maximus and the two forums
The Arch of Caracalla
The Temple of the Severan Family (Gens Septimia)
The Roman theatre (capacity around 3,000)
The Christian quarter with its basilicas and baptistery
Private houses, baths, markets and other public buildings
We also visit the on-site museum, famous for its outstanding collection of Roman mosaics (mythological scenes, daily life, animals), sculptures and everyday objects recovered from the site.
As a local guide I share the history of this mountain colony founded in the 1st century AD, its growth under the Severan emperors, and the stories behind the monuments and mosaics.
Ideal for history lovers, photographers and travellers who want more than a quick walk through the ruins..❤️
